Outreach In the World
Community Meals and Tanzanian Companion Congregation
Tanzanian Companion Congregation
In 2004, Zion entered into companionship with Forest Lutheran Church in Mbeya, Tanzania. Forest Church is a congregation of the Konde Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. Through Prayer, singing common hymns, communication, and the sharing of our resources, we strengthen our faith relationship as together we serve our one Lord. Pastor John visited Forest Lutheran Church and the Konde Diocese in October of 2004. Pastor John is pictured here with the Bishop of the Konde Diocese in Tanzania.
Community Meals
Each Monday evening at 5:30pm a meal is served at Zion Church, welcoming those who are economically challenged, senior citizens and other who come for friendship. Meals are served by members of Zion and other local churches, along with area businesses. Our clothing bank is open each Monday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.
Zion's Quilters
Two Monday afternoons a month a busy group gathers to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. These quilts are made for worldwide distribution to refugees who use them as their home, a blanket, a protection, and a back pack to carry their belongings. In the first year, this group made one hundred quilts.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Two afternoons a month, a group called Skeins & Scones meets to either knit or crochet beautiful prayer shawls. Compassion and a love of knitting or crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl.
Area Needs
Zion responds to the needs of our area food banks, clothing banks, Transitional Living Center, Lutheran World Hunger and Disaster Appeals and other areas of Need to which we respond with various drives in the congregation.
